Whether or not you’re a sports buff, it’s hard to resist the excitement surrounding the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

From the opening to closing ceremonies, swimming to gymnastics, gold to bronze medals, this history-in-the-making event is clearly a must-see.

However, most busy professionals will not be able to get away with staying glued to their TV sets for the next couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on any of the action.

We’ve scoured the Internet and rounded-up the following tips and tricks for helping you stay in the loop on everything going down in London town.

Ready, Set, TWEET!

Get the inside scoop straight from the Olympian athletes themselves (in 140 characters or less at that). Telegraph Sport compiled a great list of the top 50 Olympian tweeters.

For starters, you can follow 14-time gold medalist (and undefeated Beijing champ) @MichaelPhelps as he faces fellow teammate Ryan Lochte in a swimming showdown.

Don’t forget to follow hashtags #London2012 (the hashtag of the official Olympics website) or just plain old #Olympics. And while socializing online in your downtime, try checking out the many Olympics-inspired games and apps on your favorite social networks, like this Facebook app from major sponsor Visa for creating personalized cheers for the athletes.

Also, turn to Pinterest for a quick visual fix on your own time. From a quaint collection of ads circa 1948 to DIY everything (party, food and kids games), plenty of boards on everything Olympics have surfaced.

Catch the Action Online

Lucky for us, oh so many resources for watching and tracking the Games are available online. This includes the live streaming of 3,500 hours of programming for 32 sports across 302 events, brought to us by NBCOlympics.comAll My Faves blog and the Bleacher Report pulled together comprehensive lists of suggestions as well that range from YouTube to Yahoo to online newsletters.

Don’t forget to review the Olympic events schedule and see what works within yours to catch major events as they happen.

Work the Olympics into your Everyday

From fashion to food, the games have penetrated almost every aspect of our daily lives. Without taking it too far, there are plenty of fun ways to work the Games into your daily routine.

For example, why not switch up your lunch routine with one of Chobani Yogurt’s U.S.-Olympic-training-center-approved recipes, like “Smashed Potatoes and Broccoli.” Or work the Games into your beauty regimen with inspired products like these featured by People.com and InStyle.com. Whether you’re an Old Spice kind of guy or a Ralph Lauren kind of gal, there’s a fix for everyone.
